28th January 2004 | As soon go kindle fire with snow…

“As soon go kindle fire with snow, as seek to quench the fire of love with words.” Or so Shakespeare reckoned.

The snow fell hard here last night, so we can test out his theory in a scientific fashion: I’ll find someone to “quench the fire” of my love with words and, at the same time, I'll try and get a bonfire going using a big pile of frozen water as tinder.

Accurate readings will be taken of all factors throughout the experiment until one thing (the laws of physics) or another (my utter refusal to contemplate the fact that she and I might not be together) gives way, and we’ll know for sure whether the bard was right on the subject.

The only thing left to decide is which particular words my fellow scientist will use when trying to quench. So far I’ve short listed “It’ll never happen, you fool”, “You care for her more than she’ll ever care for you”, “Uttoxeter. Slough. Pelicans. Bunker.” and “Dream on, schoolgirl” as particularly quenching expressions. Any other quench-worthy suggestions can be sent on a electric postcard to the usual address.

P.S.: The snow is a modified version of Geoff’s FLA from way back. If you’re in to that kind of thing you should go check out his site for more funky flash stuff.
